Q: What kind of year was last year?

--What kind of year was last year?

"I've been playing professionally for about 24 years, but last year I had to take a long break for the first time because my back pain got so bad. I took about four or five months off, about 10 games, and only returned in the fall to play, so it was the fewest games I've played so far."

--That was a splendid comeback.

"I'm glad that I managed to get a seed right, but I've been taking good care of myself since I was young, but as you get older and there are a lot of other things that go wrong, it's hard to keep up."

--But you still got a good seed and it was a great season despite your injury.

"Well, somehow. I was really worried about taking a long break. But after I returned, things went well, and it became a valuable experience for me, so I think it was good."

Q. What is the most memorable moment in your career so far?

-- What is the most memorable moment in your career so far?

"It was definitely winning the Chunichi Crowns. It was my first win, and I'm from Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, so winning a tournament held in my hometown was great. I've been watching this tournament since I was an amateur, and the Chunichi Crowns is one of the titles that not only I, but any professional golfer would like to win.

I think that winning my first championship at the Chunichi Crowns was a huge achievement for me personally, and it was also the thing that made me happiest above all else.

Since it was my hometown, there were a lot of people who came to support me, and my family came to support me, too, but being able to see the victory scene live is one of the great things about being in your hometown, so I think that was a really good thing."

--Have you ever received words from a fan or experienced anything that made a strong impression on you?

"After being in the business for such a long time, I have fans who have been supporting me for a long time, and some who come almost every week. On the other hand, during the COVID-19 period, we also had no spectators. It was the first time in my career that I experienced no spectators.

I was able to reaffirm once again that the support from the galleries and fans gives me incredible strength. I want to make everyone who supports me happy, not just for myself. I strongly feel that I want to give back, even if just a little, to the people who give me strength through their cheering, by producing results."

Q. What are the good points of ZOY and what are your favorite items?

── What are the good points of ZOY and what are your favorite items?

"I've always loved ZOY since I turned pro. He's a year older than me, but Ryuji Imada used to wear it as a contracted pro. I thought ZOY was a really good brand back then, and I was paying attention to it. At the time, I had a contract with another clothing company, so it was stylish and it stayed in my mind as a brand that I wanted to wear someday."

── Thank you. So you've known about it since the beginning!

"That's right! After that, Taki-san (President and CEO of Takihyo Co., Ltd.) bought the ZOY brand, and the designs are great and the functionality is also amazing. The lining for autumn and winter items is warm and cold-resistant, and the fabric is really good. Rather than wearing sportswear, it feels like I'm wearing my favorite apparel, which is what I like. Also, as I've gotten older, I feel like it suits my current age, so I really like it."

── What do you think about ZOY's comfort and functionality?

"The feel of the fabric is really good and it's stretchy, but it also regulates temperature really well. For example, autumn and winter sweaters have a windbreaker (windproof lining) inside, and that's what really keeps them warm! It's hard to play golf if you're wearing too much, so even though these are light clothes, you're not cold. I really like that about them too."

Q. Do you have any hobbies or anything you've been devoted to lately?

── Do you have any hobbies or anything you've been passionate about lately?

"Well, I wrote in my profile that my hobby is Namie Amuro. You might be wondering what that means (lol), but I really like Amuro and have gone to see her concerts quite a lot. Sometimes I go as many as 7-8 times a year, and I enjoy it. But our tours usually start in September, in the fall, and they get really exciting and there are a lot of shows. Amuro's tours also start in the fall, so they overlap (lol), so when I could in December or January, or during my off-season, I'd go see her concerts.

After spending my off-season like that for 6-7 years, Amuro-chan retired and I stopped going to live concerts. Now I really love golf, not just as a job, but as a hobby. Golf is part of my job, but on my days off, I want to go golfing with my friends. Golf during a match is completely different, and playing golf with friends is also really fun, so I guess golf is my hobby. That's why I'm really happy. Doing what I love has become my job. There are some players who don't want to join a club during their off-season, but I really enjoy playing golf with my friends. I also love to eat, and I go on trips to other parts of the country, so it might be really fun to enjoy delicious food in those places. "

── Finally, what are your future goals?

"After turning 40, I started to feel pain in various parts of my body, and things just didn't work the way I used to. When that happens, I have to think about my body and cut back on my training. I've reached that age, but I have the experience I've gained, and I think about what I can do at each moment.

I think golf is probably the only sport where you can compete on the same level as younger players. I'm not your son, but being able to play with professionals of that age is one of the great things about golf. I'm going to do what I can now, to the best of my ability. I want to stay at the forefront as a professional for as long as possible, and I want to continue working hard, aiming to win. I want to keep that motivation firmly in my heart as I move forward, and I want to continue to work hard and do my best."

-- All of us at ZOY are rooting for you! Thank you very much.
